To the rescue
On Friday morning, firefighters were called to 177 W. 26th St. between Sixth and Seventh Avenues after a fire was discovered inside a basement wall; it was extinguished with no injuries. A Subway Sandwich shop and the R&C Laundry were cordoned off, since the fire was found to be inside the wall between the establishments, and a portion of a wall inside the laundry was damaged. Firefighters attacked the fire from the second floor and in the basement. West 26 Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues was closed to traffic for several hours as fire vehicles from Engine 3, Engine 26, Ladder 12 and Ladder 24 filled the street.
