Arrivederci Chelsea
A Chelsea woman, 77, told police at the 10th Precinct that an Italian man, 24, who was sharing her apartment for a month between June and July last year apparently made off with her jewelry with a total value of $3,040. The victim said she learned of the theft when she checked her jewelry on Jan. 15 after her bank branch phoned her to inquire about an account the guest had opened in June giving her address as his home.
Club losses
A Brooklyn woman, 24, told police that her Chanel bag and wallet, valued at $1,900, was stolen from the couch where she had left it while dancing at Sol, the club at 609 W. 29th St., around 3:45 a.m. Sun., Jan. 13. The bag also had $250 in cash, a make-up case and a cell phone. A security guard at the club looked for the bag but was unable to find it, police said.
A woman patron of Pink Elephant, 527 W. 27th St., told police her bag, valued at $500, with $600 in cash, was stolen at about 4 a.m. Wed. Jan. 16.
Knights errant robbers
A man was having an argument with his girlfriend at 4:30 a.m. Sun., Jan. 13 on the southeast corner of Ninth Ave. at W. 15th St. when three strangers interfered and one of them asked his girlfriend, Are you going to let him talk to you like that? The three then grabbed and punched the victim, took his $500 watch, $400 in cash and his cell phone and fled. The robbers were described only as black men in their 20s.
Flatiron club slash
Police arrested two men for slashing a patron and a bouncer at Club Spy, 17 W. 19th St., at 5:45. Sun., Jan. 13. Steven Lawrence and Michael Slater, both 22, were each charged with two counts of assault and possession of a weapon. Lawrence was charged with slashing the patron on the arm, and Slater was charged with slashing the bouncer when he intervened, according to the office of District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau. The suspects were held for a Jan. 18 arraignment.
Trash toss
Police arrested Eric Moses, 48, on 23rd St. at Seventh Ave. at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 10 and charged him with assault. Police said Moses was involved in a loud argument in the street and tossed garbage at a car parked at the curb. When the victim got out of the car to remonstrate, Moses pushed him down and started to kick him, police said. Moses was charged with second-degree assault and was scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 18.
Sword and grass
Police arrested Michael Florio, 21, at 1:45 a.m. Wed., Jan. 16 on the northeast corner of 10th Ave. and W. 28th St. and charged him with possession of a cane sword and an unspecified quantity of marijuana. Florio has prior weapons and controlled substance convictions, according to law enforcement sources. On Jan. 6 at the northwest corner of 10th Ave. and W. 28th St., police arrested Raymond Grant, 30, and Kurt Bertozzi, 29, for criminal possession of switchblade knives.
Needed frank fast?
Jose Avilaqua, 34, was charged with assault at 4:48 a.m. Jan. 6 for punching two women visitors from Westchester while all of them were waiting on a queue at a food vendor at the southwest corner of 10th Ave. at W. 27th St.
Second attempt
Burglars broke into the Magnet Theater, the improv comedy club at 254 W. 29th St. through a side door around 2 a.m. Sun., Jan. 6 and made off with a laptop computer and two CD players, police said. On Sun. Dec. 23, burglars broke into the club and tried but failed to remove a safe from the office.
Fast takeoff
A woman told 10th Precinct police on Sun., Jan. 13 that a livery cab had dropped her off in front of 279 W. 22nd St. at Eighth Ave., two weeks earlier and before she could get her luggage out of the trunk, the driver sped off. The victim said she notified the 17th Precinct and the Taxi and Limousine Commission. She also said she called Long Island Taxi Co., which dispatched the car, but the company refused to give her any information about the driver.
Shoplifting assault
Police arrested Randy Graham, 58, on Sunday afternoon Jan. 13 and charged him with trying to walk out of the Rite Aid at 282 Eighth Ave. at 24th St. without paying for merchandise tucked in a bag he had under his coat. Graham was also charged with punching the store manager, who had detained him.
