Knifepoint snatch
Police arrested three young men on Saturday afternoon Sept. 29 and charged them with snatching a chain from the neck of a teenager at knifepoint and beating him on a street in the Flatiron neighborhood. The suspects, Chinelle Thomas, 27, Redron Cohen, 19 and Jarrell Cunningham, 19, were arrested inside the lobby of 135 W. 23rd St., the Associated Blind residence, where they ran into during a chase, police said. One of the suspects had put a knife to the neck of the 17-year-old victim while another snatched a gold chain from his neck, police said. The suspects are also charged with knocking the victim to the pavement and punching and kicking him.
Cabbie slashed
An enraged man slashed a cab driver on the arm at 9:30 p.m. Fri. Sept. 21 when the driver, who had his off duty light on, refused to admit him on Broadway at E. 27th St., police said. Marcin Skiba, 29, pulled a box cutter when he was denied a ride and slashed the driver through an open window, according to police. The driver phoned 911 and police arrested the suspect a short time later. Skiba was freed on $3,000 bail pending a Jan. 16 court date.
Funny money
A patron of Sol, the club at 609 W. 29th St., was charged with passing counterfeit money at 4:15 a.m. Tues. Oct. 2 when the bartender discovered that a $5 bill she had passed him looked funny. Nicole Williams, 24, was charged with passing a total of three bad bills, a 20 and a 10 in addition to the five. She was also charged with possession of another phony $10 bill. She was arraigned Oct. 2 and freed on her own recognizance pending a Jan. 17 court appearance.
Club slashing
Police arrested two men during the early hours of Sun. Sept. 30 inside Sol, 609 W. 29th St., and charged them with slashing the face of a Brooklyn man, 27, who was at the club with two friends. Jose Cruz, 28, and Richard Cintron, 29, were charged with first-degree assault.
Free clothes
A New Jersey man told police he was conned by a man who promised him a new job and a free set of work clothes and brought him to the Gap store at 258 Eighth Ave. at 23rd St. on Tues. Oct. 2. The man made off with the victims backpack containing a laptop computer and $1,000 in cash, which the victim had left outside the changing room where he was trying on jeans.
Equipment stolen
The manager of a construction site in a building at 516 W.19th St. told police on Tues. Oct. 2 that two power tools, with a total value of $4,759, was stolen from the first floor of the building, and had last been seen on Sept. 9. The thieves also stole pipe fittings valued at $540 from the site.
Hat slashed
A resident of 401 W. 19th St. in the Robert Fulton houses told police that he was in the apartment of a woman acquaintance on Friday morning Sept. 28 when she became enraged when he refused to get her some weed and slashed his head. Police said the victims baseball cap had several cuts but there was no sign of other injury.
Cell phone theft
An East Harlem man, 17, told police that someone who looked familiar stopped him at the corner of Seventh Ave. and 23rd St. shortly before 2 p.m. Mon. Oct.1, asked him for the time and snatched his cell phone. The victim said he had seen the thief before in his high school.
Playground beating
Two men severely beat a Brooklyn man, 27, about the head and face with an aluminum baseball bat and a brick at 2:24 p.m. Sun. Sept. 30 in a play area at 425 W. 25th St. in the Elliott Chelsea houses. Police arrested one suspect, Matthew Perez, 18, and charged him with assault.
Domestic exchange
A Chelsea woman told police she met her divorced husband at 4 p.m. Sun. Sept. 30 at the corner of Eighth Ave. at W. 18th St. to pick up their child who had been visiting with him. Her husband demanded money and when she refused, grabbed her bag, took $15 from it and fled, police said.
