Rob expectant mom
Police arrested Brian Lebron, 16, shortly before 5 p.m. Mon. Sept. 10 and charged him with knocking down a woman seven months pregnant, dragging her 10 feet on her belly on the sidewalk on Seventh Ave at 14th St., and snatching a leather bag with $8,712 from her.
The victim, Mayra Mejia, assistant manager of Better Burger on Eighth Ave. at W. 19th St. in Chelsea, was taking the money to a bank for deposit along with a co-worker when the suspect came up from behind them at W. 14th St. and grabbed the leather bag. which she had inside a plastic bag wrapped around her hand, according to the charges.
The suspect finally pulled the bag away from her but dropped it in front of St. Vincent’s Hospital two blocks south when three passersby who gave chase held him for police, according to reports.
Lebron, a Bronx resident, was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail pending a Sept. 14 court date for notice of grand jury action.
Hit by bullet
A Brooklyn resident walking on the southwest corner of Seventh Ave at W. 27th St. at 5:05 a.m. Mon. Sept. 10 was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital after a bullet hit him in the left buttock and exited at his hip, police said. The victim said he had been arguing with someone before the shot was fired but gave no description of his assailant.
Menacing
Hudson Partlow, 31, was arrested at 6:34 p.m. Sat. Sept 8 on 10th Ave. at 24th St. and charged with menacing a man by waving a knife in front of his face and threatening “to slice his neck,” police said. The suspect was also charged with possession of a controlled substance for carrying a marijuana joint.
Assault on woman
James McKethan, 40, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Sat. Sept. 8 and charged with assault for throwing a woman acquaintance to the pavement on W. 21st St. between Eighth and Ninth Aves. across from P.S. 11, police said.
Red-clad thief
A man parked his car on the northeast corner of Ninth Ave. and W. 23rd St. on Tuesday afternoon Sept. 11 and put two boxes of photo equipment at his feet while fishing in his pocket for change for the parking meter. Someone, described only as wearing a red windbreaker and hood, came from behind, grabbed the two boxes and fled, police said. The boxes and their contents were valued at $5,800.
West Chelsea thefts
A patron of The Park, 118 10th Ave. at 18th St., told police that someone took the backpack he left at his table while he was on the dance floor at 3 a.m. Sat. Sept. 8. The bag had credit cards, an MP3 player, a Mandarin dictionary and a EurRail Rome-Florence ticket.
Two women who had lunch at The Park the same day discovered just as they left at 12:40 p.m. that their wallets, one with $120 and the other with $80, had been stolen. They said the wallets might have been stolen earlier at a fashion show they had attended at Bumble & Bumble, 415 W. 13th St.
Pay on demand
A Chelsea woman told police she noticed her cell phone was missing during the early hours of Tues. Sept. 11 while she was walking on the southwest corner of 10th Ave. at W. 28th St. She sent a text message to the phone when she got home“If you have the phone please return it”police said. The next day, she received a text reply, “If you want the phone sent Pay Pal, $200,” from someone named Annie Collens.
Sexual molesting
Police arrested Clyde Kyanes, 54, at about 7:30 p.m. Tues. Sept. 11 and charged him with grabbing a woman’s buttocks on the street at the northeast corner of Eighth Ave. at W. 16th St.
Ecstasy possession
An Emergency Medical Service team picked up a man unconscious on the sidewalk on the southeast corner of Seventh Ave. at W. 20th St. and found several red ecstasy tablets in his pockets while looking for his identification, police said. The man, Keith Lisa, 33, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Where are we?
A New Jersey man parked his car on W. 24th St. between Seventh and Eighth Aves. at 11:30 p.m. Thurs. Sept. 6 and when he returned at 3:30 a.m. found the front passenger-side window broken and the Magellan G.P.S. navigation system stolen.
Apartment burglary
A couple who left their third-floor apartment at 257 W. 19th St. on an eight-day vacation told police on Mon. Sept 10 that they discovered jewelry valued at $790 was stolen. There was no report of forced entry.
Chain snatch attempt
A Chelsea man, 40, told police he was stepping out of a hired car at W. 26th St. and Eighth Ave. during the early hours of Sun. Sept. 2 when a stranger came up, punched him in the face and tried but failed to snatch a gold chain from his neck. The victim didn’t report the incident until Sept. 10.
