Police Blotter
Cold assault
Davone Jones, 26, of the Bronx, was charged with assault for throwing an ice bucket while on the dance floor of Lotus, a club at 409 W. 14th St. west of Ninth Ave., at 3:30 a.m. Sun. July 29 and hitting a woman on the head. Jones got into an argument with the woman, 24, after she asked Jones to move away from her, according to police. A male friend of hers intervened, and Jones threw the ice bucket at him but missed and hit the woman, police said.
Stuyvesant Town fire
A fire in a fourth-floor apartment at 620 E. 20th St. in Stuyvesant Town at 2:24 p.m. Tues. Aug. 7 brought 12 fire companies and 60 firefighters to the scene. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The fire was declared to be under control at 3:06 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation, said a NYFD spokesperson.
Rent-sell rip-off
Police arrested Alberto Ibarretxe on Mon. July 30 and charged him with grand larceny in connection with the theft of $50,000 in photo equipment that he rented over the previous 30 days from Trec Rentals. 130 W. 20th St. Ibarretxe was arrested when he tried to sell the equipment to Adorama, 42 W. 18th St., where an employee recognized the equipment as belonging to Trec.
Illegal medical practice
Police arrested Dr. Ramon Torres, 48, on Wed. Aug. 1 at his home, 420 W. 23rd St., and charged him with practicing medicine without a valid state medical license. Torres had his license suspended for 12 months last December after he was accused of being a habitual drug or alcohol user and practicing medicine while impaired. He was also charged with grand larceny for illegally billing Medicaid for $17,000 while practicing without a license. From 1990 to 1997, Torres was medical director of St. Vincents Hospital AIDS Center.
Gone from account
The owner of a business service located at Pier 60 in the Chelsea Piers complex told police on Tues. Aug. 8 that someone was able to use his password to take $50,027 from his Citibank account. The victim said that he had engaged Frantic LLC to manage his business computer network, which had access to emails and passwords.
Found on 23rd St.
An Emergency Medical Service team found Vincent Ianucci, 29, of Long Island City, lying face down on the sidewalk at 23rd St. and 11th Ave. on Sunday morning Aug. 5, having fallen or jumped from the window of his fourth-floor room of Chelsea Inn, 184 11th Ave. The victim was taken to the hospital with head and internal injuries. Police said there was no sign of physical disturbance in the victims room.
Robbery attempt
Four men jumped out of a car at 10th Ave. at 15th St., surrounded a man on the sidewalk and demanded his wallet, police said. When the victim refused, the robbers began punching him and continued to demand money. One of the suspects hit a friend of the victim who tried to intervene with a trashcan. Police arrived and arrested Guillermo Scantlebery, 21, Leroy Oriakhe, 21, Donovan Dunwell, 22, and Garth Braithwaite, 22, and charged them with assault and attempted robbery.
29th St. assault
Police arrested Michael Walker, 40, at 11:30 p.m. Tues. Aug. 8 and charged him with assault for punching a man on the sidewalk in front of his home at 512 W. 29th St.
West Chelsea beating
A man walked into the 10th Precinct police station on Wed. Aug. 8 and said an unidentified assailant attacked him on W. 27th St. between 11th and 12th Aves. at about 2:30 a.m. on June 14 and broke his jaw, and caused him to have a slipped spinal disc and cuts on his head. The victim said he had been treated at New York Presbyterian Hospital as an outpatient since June.
Larceny arrest
Police arrested Scooter Franklin, 32, at 12:30 p.m. Tues. Aug 7, and charged him with taking a Walkman, CDs and a bag of tools from two employees of Elmo, a restaurant at 156 Seventh Ave. between 19th and 20th Sts.
Burglary arrest
Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at 5:30 p.m. Mon. July 30 at the front door of 319 W. 21st St. and arrested Qisheng Lu, 30, with burglary tools in the lobby.
Samba problem
A resident of 274 W. 19th St. told police on Mon. July 30 that his bank in Brazil notified him that someone had made purchases totaling $10,000 on the banks credit and debit cards. The victim said the cards were not stolen and he still had them.
