Penn South residents enjoy the Passover seder last Thursday.
Passover comes early to Penn South
More than a hundred senior residents of Penn South held an early Seder last Thursday, filling the community room at W. 28th St. They were joined by Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer as well as Penn South executives.
As residents filed in to an organist playing Tradition from the Broadway show Fiddler on the Roof, two dozen volunteers from the Chelsea-based JASA, the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged, circulated with plates of chopped liver and brisket.
Nine-year-old Jahni Cooper, the son of Penn South Social Worker Christie Aston, asked the traditional four questions from the Haggadah, including, Why is this night different from all others?
The first night of the eight-day Passover holiday is Monday night, April 2.
