Liquor Authority to hold hearing on Scores stripclub
By Albert Amateau
The State Liquor Authority will hold a March 28 hearing on its liquor license suspension of Scores West, the West Chelsea strip club at 536 W. 28th St.
The agency summarily revoked the license on Feb. 21 after police arrested four strippers and two male managers on prostitution charges after a Jan. 25 undercover raid on the club. The defendants pleaded not guilty in criminal court and are free pending court appearances next month.
Scores is still selling alcohol pending an S.L.A. decision following the agencys administrative law hearing at 10 a.m. next Thursday at the Adam Clayton Powell State Office building on W. 125th St. The three-member authority is expected to decide on the issue within the next few weeks.
On March 7, the S.L.A. rejected Scores offer to pay a $25,000 penalty with no license suspension. The agency said the club should accept a license revocation and a two-year proscription on the premisesmeaning that neither Scores nor anyone else could sell alcohol at the location for two years. The S.L.A. also called for surrender of the clubs $1,000 bond plus the $25,000 civil penalty.
A Scores spokesperson said the owners opposed any license suspension and would go to State Supreme Court to contest any S.L.A. decision to revoke the license.
