Im a poet and I didnt even know it
Hudson Guilds Fulton Center was alive with the sounds of live poetry on Wednesday afternoon, as a dozen fifth through eighth graders read their original works as part of the Voice of the Beacon Project, inspired and funded by Friends of the Hudson River Park and the Hudson Guild. The children were coming off an eight-week course with Brooklyn poet Julien Poirier, from Ugly Duckling Press, who worked with the students to help them explore their urban and natural environments and mix their findings with poetry. Their works were then printed in a 12-page newspaper called Voice of the Beacon: Poetry from the Heart of Chelsea.
