May the sword be with you
Sword dancing is a centuries-old winter celebration from the coal-mining regions of northern England. Twelve teams from across the U.S. performed long-sword dancing and rapper sword dancing in New York City this weekend, at venues as diverse as Jefferson Market Library in Greenwich Village and the Port Authority Bus Terminal, as well as spots across Brooklyn. Several dozen residents of Penn South also witnessed a 45-minute-long performance of sword dancing by three teams. Top: The team Still River Sword from the town of Harvard, Ma. Bottom: The team New Moon Sword, composed of the children of other sword dancers.
