Red-letter day
A man who waved a handgun in the face of a Wachovia Bank teller on Ninth Ave. and W. 15th St. on Tuesday morning Jan. 23 demanded money and fled with a stack of cash with a dye pack tucked in it, police said. The dye pack exploded on the street and the thief dropped some of the money but made his escape with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
Weapons arrest
Responding to a written tip, police from the 10th Precinct went to a third-floor room at Chelsea Inn, 184 Eleventh Ave. at W. 23rd St., at 9 p.m. Fri. Jan. 26 and confiscated an unlicensed handgun and a gravity knife from Mario Martis, 30, and charged him with weapons possession.
Sexual assault
Police last week issued a wanted notice for a man suspected in the sexual assault of a woman resident of a W. 27th St. single-room-occupancy hotel during the early hours of Oct. 25. The victim told police that after a night of drinking, she was awakened in her room by a strange man kissing her. She told police the intruder raped her and fled with her cell phone and an ATM card, which he used to withdraw $1,000 from her account.
No Diddy picture
A woman patron of Crobar, the club at 530 W. 29th St., told police she took a picture of a celebrated fellow patron, Sean Combs, known as Diddy, during the early hours of Sun. Jan. 28, but one of Combs body guards snatched the camera out of her hands. She followed the man outside the club, demanded her camera back, and he gave it to her after removing the memory card. The man fled before police responded to the complaint.
Gunpoint hold-up
A man dressed in black and wearing a black mask walked into the Subway sandwich shop at 235 Eighth Ave. shortly after midnight on Fri. Jan. 26, pulled a black handgun and ordered the counterman to put the money from the cash register into his backpack, police said. He fled with $818 in cash and the countermans cell phone.
Clean getaway
A burglar broke into a laundromat at 144 Eighth Ave, through the front gate during the early hours of Mon. Jan. 29 and made off with $1,250 in cash, police said.
Malicious mischief
Police arrested Kayode Leonard, 25, and charged him with disorderly conduct and malicious mischief at 5:45 a.m. Thurs. Jan. 27 for kicking in the glass front of a diner at 108 Eighth Ave. after he had been ejected from the place for verbally abusing women patrons.
