Bribery charge
Police responding to a disturbance at the corner of 29th St. and Ninth Ave. at 2:30 a.m. Sat., Jan. 6, arrested Daniel Fletcher for misdemeanor assault. At the 10th Precinct stationhouse, at 230 W. 20th St., the suspect offered the arresting officer, Robert McGee, $2,000 to let him go uncharged and also offered the desk sergeant $2,000 to forget about the charge, police said. They declined the offer and charged Fletcher with two counts of bribery, as well as third-degree assault.
Bag theft arrest
A woman patron of Marquee, at 289 10th Ave., discovered that her bag was missing at about 4 a.m. Wed., Jan. 10, police said. A short time later, club security stopped David Shiri leaving the club with the bag under his jacket, police said. Shiri was charged with grand larceny.
Weapon charge
Police stopped a motorist at 29th St. west of Ninth Ave. at about 10 p.m. Wed., Jan. 10, for a traffic violation and found a gravity knife in the door compartment and two forged U.S. Virgin Islands I.D.s. They charged the motorist, Jonathan Nwogu, 28, with possession of a weapon and possession of forged documents.
Bookkeeping scam
Edwin Sanchez, 28, a bookkeeper for the Health and Fitness Center at Chelsea Piers, surrendered with his attorney at the 10th Precinct on Thursday afternoon Jan. 11, where he was charged with grand larceny for the theft of more than $84,000 from the sports and entertainment complex over the course of 11 months from January 2006 to December 2006, according to Detective Joe Cornetta, who investigated the case.
